Spanish service time
Observing nights are offered to the astrophysics community as part of Spain’s allocated observing time on the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT) and Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT) at Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, and the Telescopio Carlos Sánchez (TCS) and IAC80 telescope at Teide Observatory.
Service time applications are to be made solely through the official form, no other method of application being acceptable. A separate form must be filled in for each service night.
Service observations must not exceed three hours of observing per night, although more than one night may be applied for on the TCS and IAC80.
Publications deriving from service night data should include suitable acknowledgement of the origin of any images arising therefrom and identification of the tasks carried out by the support astronomers group.
ROQUE DE LOS MUCHACHOS OBSERVATORY
2.- NORDIC OPTICAL TELESCOPE (NOT)
Between 3 and 6 service nights per semester (see observing calendar)

TEIDE OBSERVATORY
Apart from service nights, observing time for routine programmes is also offered on the TCS and IAC80: astronomers with CAT-allocated time are obliged to concede a maximum of 1 hour in summer, 1.5 hours in spring and autumn, and 2 hours in winter. The support astronomer or telescope operator (in the former’s absence) will reach agreement with the allocated observer the times to be devoted to such programmes.
No routine programme observation may request integration times in excess of the agreed with the observer. Such observations are best suited to continuous monitoring programmes. There are three classes of routine programmes, in the following order of priority:
- IAC (absolute priority): Of particular interest to the IAC or to its telescopes.
- CAT: Programmes presented, or approved, by CAT.
- General (lowest priority): Requested by users from this page.
1.- Telescopio Carlos Sánchez (TCS)
An average of 12 service nights per semester (see observing calendar)
