Rationale

La Gomera Accretion Week 2017 is an invitation-only workshop focussed on accretion related processes in Low Mass X-ray binaries. This will also include very selected talks on High Mass X-ray binaries, Ultraluminous X-ray sources and Cataclysmic Variables. The goal of the conference is to bring together 60 experts on these particular areas:

i)    Accreting compact objects in era of surveys

ii)   Accretion, jets and winds

iiI)  Accretion on pulsars

Each of these three topics will be extensively covered by 6 to 12 invited talks (30 min each) given by experts who are currently leading these fields. In addition, each of the above themes will be followed by a 90 minutes open-discussion led by a well-established researcher. This might include a review talk. Additional experts on the above areas will be invited to attend the meeting and contribute to the discussions up to reaching 60 attendants.

We are planning to have a very intense (in terms of quality) schedule, but flexible and relaxed enough to allow for extensive discussion and social interaction while enjoying the natural wonders of La Gomera island and its capital San Sebastián.

The conference will take place from Monday 11 September to Friday 15 September 2017.  The scientific program will be finished by Friday lunchtime, allowing the busiest attendants to catch the Friday afternoon/evening direct flights from Tenerife Airports to continental Europe and the UK. We recommend you to stay until Saturday (and beyond) as we are planning an excursion for Friday afternoon

The conference is organised by the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias with the collaboration of the Cabildo de la Gomera.
