Cosmology in the Second artistic Residence of the KEROXEN festival 2016

The science at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) and a number of artistic presentations will come together in the activities, which will take place on 16th and 17th December, in the framework of the "Artistic Residence" with the title " Resonant Artifacts" which is being shown by the Keroxen group which is organising the multidisciplinary festival with this name. The encounter, which will take place at the El Tanque cultural space in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a disused petroleum tank in the refinery which has been rehabilitated to take this kind of events, includes within its programme concerts, talks, and interactive visual effects related to astrophysics by internationally known artists.

Frédérick Poidevin, postdoctoral Marie Skłodowska-Curie researcher of the IAC and member of the QUIJOTE Experiment for the study of the radiation of the Cosmic Microwave Background, will give an informative talk on Friday, December 16th, at 20 h on Cosmology and the early universe, as well as a historical review of the Very Small Array (VSA), interferometer operating at the Teide Observatory until 2008.

On Saturday 17 Decemberth, at 21 h, musicians Pierre Bastien (France) and David Paredes (Tenerife), together with the visual artist Román Torre (Asturias), will give an audiovisual show with images and sounds from the QUIJOTE Experiment and the VSA recorded in the Observatory itself, to which are added ten antennas of the interferometer displaced to El Tanque. All activities are free of charge.

The original idea of ​​this audiovisual piece is born of the conversations and the combine work of the invited artists around the concept of resonance of the extra galactic space and the remnant of the early universe or Cosmic Microwaves Background, detected for the first time in the 90. According to Frédérick Poidevin, "this experiment is one of the most important observational evidences of the Big Bang theory".
