The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias will join the celebration, on February 11th, of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, with a street activity in La Laguna aimed at giving publicity to the work carried out by women astronomers and engineers at the Institute, and to encourage girls to take up scientific and technological careers.
On Saturday 11th February there will be a celebration around the world of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, initiated in 2016 by the United Nations Organization as part of its fight to reach gender equality. This year, the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) will join in the activities scheduled for that day (https://11defebrero.org) with the activity "TALK WITH THEM: women in Astronomy" which will take place from 10 am to 14 pm in the centre of La Laguna, in Tenerife. To be specific, it will take place in a covered space provided by Galerias Wehbe in Herradores street, and with the collaboration of the City Council of San Cristóbal de La Laguna. The aim is to give face to face publicity of the work carried out by women astronomers and engineers at the IAC, to stimulate interest in scientific and technological careers, and to show that science and technology are not the exclusive province of men.
