The ULL Astrophysics Doctoral Programme

Logo ULL

The  University of La Laguna (ULL), through its 1993 written agreement with the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), cedes to the IAC all responsibility for carrying out research in the field of Astrophysics.

Given the close relation between postgraduate training and research, responsibility for carrying out the ULL Astrophysics Doctoral Programme will be shared by both centres.

The ULL-IAC Astrophysics doctoral programme has available about eighty researchers specializing in different areas of Astrophysics  able to supervise theses.

Each year, moreover, the IAC offers Resident Astrophysicist doctoral thesis contracts as part of the doctoral programme, as well as a variable number of grants for completing a thesis in European countries (Becas International grants) and the USA  (University of Florida grants).

Approximately forty doctoral theses are currently being worked on at any one time, an average of about ten being completed each year (all the theses read from 2008 onwards may be consulted in the Thesis Archive).

The ULL Astrophysics Doctoral Programme has been awarded the "Certificate of Academic Standards" of Spain's Ministry of Education and Science.
