El IAC(Tenerife, España) anuncia UN Contrato PostDoctoral Senior para investigación en (ref. EMINT-PD5 ) en “Física de las estrellas y / o del medio interestelar”. Este contrato será cofinanciado por el “programa SEVERO OCHOA” (SEV-2011-0187); un prestigioso reconocimiento otorgado recientemente al IAC, como centro puntero de investigación en España, financiado por el Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad.

Los temas de investigación que se desarrollan en el IAC incluyen la mayor parte de los campos de la Astrofísica: cosmología y estructura del Universo, astrofísica galáctica, estructura y evolución estelar, medio interestelar, física solar y estelar, diseño y construcción de telescopios, técnicas de alta resolución espacial, instrumentación infrarroja y óptica y proyectos espaciales. El IAC ha sido seleccionado por el Gobierno Español como uno de los ocho “Centros de Excelencia Severo Ochoa” de investigación, siendo el único en Astrofísica. El IAC lidera también el desarrollo de algunos de los instrumentos del telescopio de 10.4 metros GTC (http://www.gtc.iac.es), así como su explotación científica. Tareas: El objeto de este contrato es llevar a cabo investigación independiente en el area de Fisica Estelar e Interestelar.

El candidato seleccionado realizará alguna de las siguientes tareas específicas:

• La Investigación en estructura y evolución de las estrellas y/o el medio interestelar.
• La investigación en la composición química de las estrellas y/o el medio interestelar.
• El análisis de estrellas masivas de baja metalicidad.
• El estudio de la binariedad y campos magnéticos en nebulosas planetarias.
• El estudio de la función inicial de masas subestelar.

Los candidatos presentarán con su solicitud el proyecto de investigación (máximo 3 páginas), que pretenden llevar  a cabo durante su estancia.

Este puesto post-doctoral se ofrece a investigadores con una reconocida trayectoria de investigación en Física Estelar y/o del Medio Interestelar.

El candidato seleccionado tendrá su puesto de trabajo en la sede del IAC en La Laguna, en un entorno estimulante y con un agradable ambiente de trabajo. Tendrá acceso a todos los telescopios y las instalaciones de supercomputación en las Islas Canarias, incluyendo el GTC de 10,4 m, así como a otras instalaciones españolas, ESO, ESA, y el IRAM.

El IAC forma parte de varias de las mayores colaboraciones internacionales para estudiar las propiedades y evolución de las galaxias, entre ellas los cartografiados APOGEE, BOSS y SEGUE, todos parte del SDSS-III (sdss3.org) y el Cartografiado Spitzer de la Estructura Estelar en Galaxias (S4G); prepara la pronta explotación científica de la misión GAIA a través de una olaboración internacional GREAT y de  la parte española en REG (esto también incluye una importante participación en el Cartografiado Público ESO-GAIA enfocado a estudios espectroscópicos detallados de amplias selecciones de muestras de galaxias, mayormente estrellas y cúmulos de estrellas); y participa en los Consorcios científicos en torno a los mayores desarrollos instrumentales para los telescopios canarios, en concreto WEAVE@WHT y EMIR, MEGARA y MIRADAS para el GTC

Titulación: Los solicitantes deberán estar en posesión del doctorado en Astrofísica o Física y tener al menos 5 años de experiencia previa postdoctoral a la fecha de publicación de la Resolución Final del Director IAC (conclusión del proceso selectivo, 31/12/2012)

NOTA: Para los aspirantes que hayan realizado su doctorado en el IAC, deberán aportar acreditación de haber desarrollado una actividad profesional en otros centros de investigación, durante al menos un año continuado o de 18 meses acumulados.

Remuneración: El salario íntegro anual será de 34.944 € euros  con retenciones en nómina en concepto de IRPF y Seguridad Social. Asimismo, el contrato incluye el alta en la Seguridad Social del cónyuge e hijos, si fuera el caso.

Gastos para viajes de investigación: Este  puesto está dotado con una bolsa de 4.000 € anuales para viajes relacionados con la actividad investigadora.

Asignación de movilidad: Se incluye en la presente convocatoria una ayuda de incorporación que el candidato seleccionado podrá disfrutar y que contiene los siguientes conceptos: billete de avión (tramitado por el IAC), módulo de estancia de dos semanas (tramitado por el IAC) y módulo de manutención de dos semanas. Esta ayuda de incorporación no podrá superar los 2.000 Euros.

Duración: Hasta cinco años, con fecha de incorporación el 1 de Enero de 2013, o anterior.

Solicitantes no pertenecientes a la UE: Los solicitantes no pertenecientes a un país de la Unión Europea deben tener en cuenta que aunque pueden presentarse, en caso de resultar seleccionados, no podrán suscribir el contrato con el IAC hasta la concesión de la documentación reglamentaria para residir y trabajar en España (tarjeta del NIE).

ENGLISH VERSION

The IAC (Tenerife, Spain) invites applications for ONE Advanced Fellowship (REF EMINT-PD5) on “Physics of stars and/or interstellar medium”. This fellowship will be co-funded bythe "SEVERO OCHOA PROGRAMME" (SEV-2011-0187); a prestigious recognition awarded to the IAC as a leading research institute in Spain, and supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.

Research topics at the IAC include most areas of astrophysics: cosmology and the structure of the Universe, galactic astrophysics, the structure and evolution of stars, the interstellar medium, solar physics, telescope design and construction, high spatial resolution techniques, infrared and optical instrumentation, and astronomical space projects. The IAC has been selected by the Spanish National Government as one of the only eight “Severo Ochoa Centers of Excellence” in research, and the only one in Astrophysics. The IAC also leads scientific teams responsible for instruments of the 10.4m GTC segmented telescope (http://www.gtc.iac.es), as well as their scientific exploitation. Tasks: This Advanced Fellowship is being offered for researchers with an excellent record in Physics of stars and/or interstellar medium. They must have at least five years of previous experience as postdoctoral researchers, by the time of conclusion of the selection process and not later than December 31^st, 2012.

The successful candidate will be based at the IAC's headquarters in La Laguna, in a stimulating and keen working environment. S/He will have access to all telescope and supercomputing facilities in the Canary Islands, including the 10.4m GTC, as well as to other Spanish facilities, ESO, ESA, and IRAM. S/He will be expected to join one or more of the IAC's research groups to pursue independent research in the aforementioned topics. Specific tasks and responsibilities will include one or more of the following:

• Research on structure and evolution of stars and/or interstellar medium
• Research on chemical composition of stars and/or interstellar medium.
• Analyses of massive stars at low metallicity.
• Study of binarity and magnetic fields in planetary nebulae.
• Study of the substellar initial mass function.

Applicants are requested to propose and describe a research project to be carried out during his/her stay, with objectives and tasks related to the aforementioned topics (max 3 pages).

The IAC is involved in major international collaborations regarding stellar research, such as the exploitation of the Gaia mission through the European collaborative effort GREAT and the Spanish counterpart in REG (this also includes an important participation in the ESO-Gaia Public Survey aimed at detailed spectrometric studies of large selected samples of galactic targets, mostly stars and stellar clusters); the ongoing survey APOGEE within SDSS-III; the VLT-FLAMES Tarantula Survey in 30 Doradus; the IPHAS and VPHAS+ Galactic Plane surveys for emission line objects, including symbiotic stars and PNe; the data analysis of CoRoT and Kepler satellites and the instrumental development and calibration of the SONG network; in the exploitation of UKIDSS, leading the Ultra-Cool Dwarf project of the Vista Hemisphere Survey (VHS-UCD); in the scientific exploitation of OSIRIS and CanariCam at GTC, and in Consortia around major instrumental developments for the Canarian telescopes, namely OSIRIS and CanariCam WEAVE@WHT and MEGARA and MIRADAS for the GTC; in the scientific team of the World Space Observatory satellite

Doctorate : Applicants must have a PhD in Astrophysics or Physics.  hey must have at least five years of previous experience as postdoctoral researchers, by the time of conclusion of the selection process and not later than December 31^st, 2012.

NOTE: Applicants who prepared their thesis at the IAC must present written evidence of having spent one continuous year, or 18 accumulated months, in other research institutes.

Remuneration: The gross annual salary is 34,944 €, subject to tax and Social Security deductions. Medical insurance under the Spanish National Health Service will be provided, and will also cover your accompanying partner and children (if relevant).

Research Travel: Each position comes with 4000 € annually for research travel.

Relocation grant: In the present call for applications we include a re-location grant for the successful candidate in which the following items are included: a flight ticket (booked and issued by the IAC), lodging for up to two weeks (organised by the IAC) and per diem for up to two weeks.  This grant will be limited to a ceiling value of 2.000 €.

Duration: Up to five years in the case of recruitments effective by January 1^st 2013 or earlier.

Non-EU citizens: If you are citizen of a country not belonging to the European Union, you can apply for this position, but if selected, you will not be allowed to sign the contract with the IAC until you obtain the compulsory documentation required to live and work in Spain (NIE card).
