The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias and collaborative centers invites applications for the 2008 Consolider-Ingenio-2010 GTC Fellowships . These appointments will be made to outstanding researchers displaying significant promise in theory, observation, instrumentation, and/or laboratory experiment.

The Consolider-GTC Fellowship programme is administered by the IAC for the participating institutions: Instituto de Astrofíca de Canarias (IAC), Gran Telescopio Canarias (GranTeCan), Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), Laboratorio de Astrofísica Espacial y Física Fundamental (LAEFF-INTA), Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT), European Space Astronomy Center (ESAC) , Universidad de Cantabria (UC), Instituto de Estudios de la Materia (IEM-CSIC), Universidad de Alicante (UA), Universidad de La Laguna (ULL), Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) , Centro de Astrobiología (CAB-CSIC) , and Institut de Estudis Espacials de Catalunya (IEEC). All these institutions work cooperatively in an environment that welcomes the ideas and contributions of young scientists for optimum use of their astronomical facilities.


These facilities include the 10.4m GTC --one of the largest optical-IR telescopes on Earth--, several 2m- and 4m-class telescopes of the European Northern Observatory (ENO) at El Roque de los Muchachos (ORM-La Palma), the Observatorio del Teide (OT-Tenerife), the Observatorio Hispano-Alemán de Calar Alto (CAHA-Almería), and IRAM (Granada). In addition, successful candidates will be able to apply to all the facilities of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and ALMA, and Mare Nostrum, the third fastest supercomputer on the world.


Appointments are for 3 years
. The stipend for 2008-2009 will be commesurate with experience of the applicant according to the policy of each participating institution. In addition, each fellowship will have a research budget of 3,000€-5,000€ per year, depending on the applicant's merits and experience. Funds are also provided for health benefits under the Spanish Social Security System. Recent Ph.D. recipients are encouraged to apply.
