A brief, (but intense) pulse of magnetism

Gamma-ray bursts are extremely energetic,  very brief, events which happen unpredictably at any point in the sky. The detection of one of these bursts in polarized light is contrary to some models of physics on a microscopic scale which try to unify quantum physics with general relativity.
