  • Measurements of the associated production of a Z boson and b jets in pp collisions at {√{s}} = 8 {TeV}

    Measurements of the associated production of a Z boson with at least one jet originating from a b quark in proton-proton collisions at √{s} = 8 {TeV} are presented. Differential cross sections are measured with data collected by the CMS experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.8 {fb}^{-1}. Z bosons are reconstructed through their

  • Measurements of the solar aureole at the Teide Observatory

    Daily measurements of the solar aureole were made at the Vacuum Newton Telescope (/D=40 cm) at the Teide Observatory (Tenerife) for various airmasses. We use these measurements to understand how the aureole is produced and to extrapolate visible measurements to the infrared range (1.6 /μm). This information will be used to correct sunspot

  • Measures of star formation rates from infrared (Herschel) and UV (GALEX) emissions of galaxies in the HerMES fields

    The reliability of infrared (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) emissions to measure star formation rates (SFRs) in galaxies is investigated for a large sample of galaxies observed with the Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver (SPIRE) and the Photodetector Array Camera and Spectrometer (PACS) instruments on Herschel as part of the Herschel Multi-Tiered

  • Membership and Multiplicity among Very Low Mass Stars and Brown Dwarfs in the Pleiades Cluster

    We present near-infrared photometry and optical spectroscopy of very low mass stars and brown dwarf candidates in the Pleiades open cluster. The membership status of these objects is assessed using color-magnitude diagrams, lithium and spectral types. Eight objects out of 45 appear to be nonmembers. A search for companions among 34 very low mass

  • Merging in the common envelope and the origin of early R-type stars

    Context. Binary systems experiencing one or two common envelope episodes during the red giant branch or the Hertzsprung gap phases can produce a single star, evolving along the Hayashi track, as a final outcome. Even if these objects are expected to be very common in nature, a proper description of their evolution and physical properties is still
