The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) has finished, during October, with the help of FEDER funds, the renewal of the whole platform of the Wifi network of its facilities. The new technology, provided by Aruba, will allow higher speeds, improving the quality of the signal and increasing the security of the users.

This is a project which has been steadily implemented centre by centre and, during the health crisis, it has been given a push forward in the Teide Observatory and in the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, and completed in record time, mainly due to the absence of personnel in the rooms of the Residences of the Observatories and, in consequence, the free availability of these rooms.

With this new wifi access network the aim is to give an access of quality which is secure and homogeneous, helping the mobility of all the corporate users and the visitors in any of the centres, and of any type of devices. In addition the possibility is included of access to the new IoT (Internet of Things) devices, which are already present in the centres of the IAC.

Part of this project has been financed by the subsidy “INSIDE 4.3 REDIRIS NOVA Agreement of the Strategic Plan OO CC 2017-220” with reference code ICTS-2019-03-IAC-12 in the framework of the agreement “Scientific and technical infrastructures and Institutional Services for the Strategic Development of the Canary Observatories (INSIDE-OOCC)”, signed by the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, cofinanced with FEDER Funds from the Operative Pluriregional Programme for Spain FEDER 2014-2020, included in the Map of Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS)”.
