  • The new site testing survey in the Canary Islands' observatories
The future establishment of large telescopes at the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos (ORM) has raised the necessity of designing a site-testing campaign, aimed specifically at selecting their emplacements, as well as characterizing correctly the local seeing behavior and the fluctuations of the turbulent field in the area covered by the

  • The NIR transmission spectrum of Jupiter from the observation of a Ganymede's eclipse
Here, we report the NIR transmission spectrum of Jupiter, with high signal-to-noise ratio, as if it were a transiting planet. Our technique was to observe Ganymede, when crossing Jupiter's shadow. During the eclipse, the spectral features of the Jovian atmosphere are imprinted in the sunlight that, after passing through Jupiter's planetary limb, is

  • The O III narrow line shapes in spectra of Mrk 817.
The O III (4959, 5007) lines from spectra of Mrk 817 obtained from a 9-year long period were analyzed. A blue asymmetry of the lines is noticeable. The authors have found that the Narrow Line Region (NLR) of Mrk 817 consists of two subregions (NLR1 and NLR2). NLR1 should be closer to the central source with higher velocity of the emitting emission

  • The Observatorio Astrofísico de Javalambre: goals and current status
The Observatorio Astrofsico de Javalambre in Spain is a new astronomical facility particularly conceived for carrying out large sky surveys with two unprecedented telescopes of unusually large elds of view: the JST/T250, a 2.55m telescope of 3deg eld of view, and the JAST/T80, an 83cm telescope of 2deg eld of view. The most immediate objective of

  • The on-board electronics for the near infrared spectrograph and photometer (NISP) of the EUCLID Mission
The Near Infrared Spectrograph and Photometer (NISP) is one of the instruments on board the EUCLID mission. The focal plane array (FPA) consists of 16 HAWAII-2RG HgCdTe detectors from Teledyne Imaging Scientific (TIS), for NIR imaging in three bands (Y, J, H) and slitless spectroscopy in the range 0.9‑2µm. Low total noise measurements (i.e. total

  • The onset of solar cycle 24. What global acoustic modes are telling us
We study the response of the low-degree, solar p-mode frequencies to the unusually extended minimum of solar surface activity since 2007. A total of 4768 days of observations collected by the space-based, Sun-as-a-star helioseismic GOLF instrument are analyzed. A multi-step iterative maximum-likelihood fitting method is applied to subseries of 365
