    IAC is participating in a full programme of activities for the Day of Women and Girls in Science
    The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), which has 94 female researchers and engineers, consolidates its commitment to gender equality by participating in more than ten actions to join this February 11. Among the aims of commemorating this day are the promotion of scientific and technological vocations among girls and young women and the visibility of the role of women in the development of science.     2022 Astronomical Calendars
    The Unit of Communication and Scientific Culture (UC3) of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) in collaboration with the Museum of Science and the Cosmos (Museums of Tenerife) has edited an astronomical wall calendar, with astronomical ephemerides for the year 2022, which can be consulted and downloaded in digital form and can be obtained in physical form at the IAC Headquarters in La Laguna (Tenerife) and at the Centro de Astrofísica en La Palma (CALP), in Breña Baja (La Palma).     La madrugada del 4 de enero el proyecto europeo Interreg EELabs retransmitirá la lluvia de meteoros de las Cuadrántidas desde el Observatorio del Teide, del Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, a través del canal sky-live.tv. Las Gemínidas y las Cuadrántidas son, junto a las Perseidas, las lluvias de meteoros más intensas del año, con una actividad que roza los 100 meteoros por hora (ZHR, tasas horarias cenitales) y que se mantiene constante año tras año (actividad cuadrántidas año 2021 en IMO). La noche del 3 al 4 de enero, además, será un momento óptimo para la observación de esta lluvia

    The Visitor Centre at the Roque de los Muchachos and the Starmus Festival: two gateways to the Universe and to the recovery of La Palma
    The Cabildo of La Palma, the Town Council of Garafía, and the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) yesterday inaugurated the Visitor Centre at the Roque de los Muchachos. Present at the ceremony were the Minister of Tourism, Reyes Maroto, and the President of the Government of the Canaries, Angel Victor Torres, among other personalities. During the first months of tests, the Visitor Centre can be visited by the population of the Island, and by tourists free of charge, so that they can enjoy and get to know at close quarters the working of this centre specialising in the scientific

    Geminids 2021: the last wishes of the year
    During the nights of 12th and 13th of December we will enjoy the peak of the Geminid meteor shower. This will be broadcast live from the Teide Observatory (Tenerife) via the sky-live.tv channel, with the collaboration with the Energy Efficiency Labs (EELabs) project, of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC).
