The ULL Astrophysics Doctoral Programme has several systems to ensure high academic standards:
The ULL System of Academic Standards Checks: The ULL has its own Internal Guarantee of Academic Standards (SGIC), to which the SGIC ULL Astrophysics Doctoral Programme adheres.
The IAC System of Academic Standards Checks: Independently of the ULL's SGIC, the IAC, through its own Education Commission, requests and annual report on thesis progress from each of its doctoral students.
This report must be signed by both the student and the thesis supervisor(s); it must state the degree of fulfilment of previously stated objectives and outline the work to be done in the following year.
In such cases as the Commission deems necessary, and in all cases where the preparation of the thesis has taken longer than four years, the student and thesis supervisor(s) are called to interview to discuss any difficulties arising and to seek possible solutions.
This same Commission keeps a record of the attendance of doctoral students at talks and seminars given at the IAC.
