If you are in the final stages of your course (preferably doing your Astrophysics Specialism) you may apply for a summer scholarship to work in one of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) research groups.
Dates: 15 July to 15 September.
Value of Scholarship: 700€ monthly plus a fixed travel allowance and health insurance.
Scholarship aim: to provide an opportunity for the student to gain an introduction to astrophysical research.
Research Subjects: research subjects at the IAC include theoretical and observation projects in Relative Cosmology and Astrophysics, Galactic and Extragalactic Astronomy, the Physics of Interstellar Material, Star Formation and Evolution, Radiative Transport, Solar Physics and Helioseismology, the Physics of Cosmic Fluids and Plasma Fluid. The IAC also designs astronomical instruments for earth telescopes and satellites. A number of groups within the Institute are involved in developing instruments for the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) 10 m telescope and space projects (HERSCHEL / PLANCK, etc.).
Facilities: the IAC's international observatories, in Tenerife (Observatorio del Teide) and La Palma (Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos) may be used for any of the research work offered. Scholarship students will mainly work at the IAC headquarters, which contains all the facilities needed for research including a Physics, Astrophysics and Engineering Library, an extensive network of workstations and Optics, Mechanics, Electronics and other workshops.
