The Electronics Department designs and develops electronic systems. Mainly boards and digital and analog systems for device control and real-time data acquisition and processing. The Department develops systems for controlling, reading, processing and characterising astronomical and general purpose detectors. Also develops servo control systems.
The Department has the experience and tools to develop and simulate FPGA based systems (Field Programmable Gate Arrays), which are at the cutting edge of electronic processing systems.
To develop, integrate and test these designs the Department uses the Electronic Design Laboratory, a general use facility, and the Electromagnetic Compatibility Laboratory which consists mainly of an electromagnetically shielded room with special equipment.
