The purpose of this MOU is to have a formal understanding between the aforementioned two parties regarding future collaborative research in the field of Adaptive Optics (AO) and Multi-Conjugate Adaptive Optics (MCAO) applied to solar physics. This scientific collaboration will further extend the knowledge of the techniques for real-time image correction of solar images blurred by the Earth's atmospheric turbulence.
This MOU covers, but is not limited to, efforts for
- the development oftechniques that can be applied in the laboratory for the simulation of the image degradation introduced by the Earth's atmospheric turbulence and its real-time correction using adequate deformable mirror technology.
- the sharing of expertise and theoretical knowledge related to adaptive optics technology, solar instrumentation and data analysis and interpretation.
- facilitating the exchange of scientists and engineers in the fìeld of adaptive optics.
- promoting the preparation of funding proposals for collaborative research projects between the parties.
IAC will provide the technical and scientifrc expertise for the development of advanced instrumentation at the Chinese Large Solar Telescope 1.8 m (CLST) and share with IOE its plans to develop a laboratory demonstrator of an adaptive optics system as a test-bed of the AO/MCAO system for the 4-meter European Solar Telescope (EST). IAC will also share the results derived from the tests performed with such a lab system.
IOE will contribute with its own deformable mirrors, real-time controllers and other tools that may be related to the development and operation of the abovementioned laboratory demonstrator. IOE will transfer these systems to the IAC at no cost for this partner. IAC takes the responsibility of sending back to IOE the material received once the tests for which it is required have been finalized.
