According to the International Astronomical Union (IAU) the proportion of women who are professional astronomers in Spain is 20% compared to 80% for their male colleagues. These data show that there is a lot of work that needs to be done before reaching a 40/60 balance, which has already been achieved in countries such as Argentina, where women make up 41% of  the professionals in this science.

Motivated by the activities associated with the “International Day of Women and Girls in Science - 11 Feb” the IAC is publishing through its video channels the second chapter of “Girls who broke a glass ceiling looking at the sky”. The aim of this series is to publicize the work of women astrophysicists and engineers at the IAC, and to enhance interest in scientific and technical careers among young women.

This second episode, produced by the Unit of Communication and Scientific Culture of the IAC, includes stories by: Antonia María Varela Pérez, Patricia Chinchilla Gallego, Ángeles Pérez de Taoro and Nayra Rodríguez Eugenio.
