Description

The research and development on adaptive optics in China began in 1979. Prof. Jiang from the Institute of Optics and Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences established the first Laboratory on Adaptive Optics in China. Based on the key technical breakthroughs of wavefront corrector including the deformable mirror and the fast steering mirror, wavefront sensor, real time controller, a series of AO systems had been set up and successfully applied in Astronomical Telescopes, Inertial Confinement Fusion, retinal high-resolution imaging and laser propagation through atmosphere. In all AO systems, the main subsystems, such as wavefront correctors, wavefront sensors, and high speed real time controllers, were built in the Laboratory on Adaptive Optics of IOE, CAS. The developments and applications of the Adaptive Optics in our institute will be introduced in this presentation.
