Description

The interaction of galaxies with their environment is a crucial issue to understand their formation and evolution. A huge effort has been devoted, from observational and theoretical points of view, to understand this complex physical scenario. Using a cosmological simulation, based on an adaptive mesh refinement scheme, able to describe the evolution of dark matter and baryons, we have studied how the gas content of galaxies changes as a result of their interactions with the surrounding medium. In order to do so, we have extracted a catalogue of galaxies from the simulation using several halo finder algorithms and have followed the individual histories of each galaxy in the catalogue.  We will present images of several synthetic galaxies ongoing interaction processes together with some statistical results corresponding the whole sample of galaxies.
