Description
The sites and mechanisms under which cosmic rays are accelerated up to relativistic energies are still under debate. Microquasar jets have been assessed as possible sources that may contribute to the total cosmic ray population, which is currently believed to be mainly originated in supernova remnants. We show preliminary results on the neutron-driven cosmic-ray production mechanism applied to the case of the microquasar SS 433. As shown in previous works, the proposed mechanism renders highly-collimated, luminous, and slow jets as very efficient cosmic ray sources. According to this result, SS 433 could be capable of producing a considerable power in cosmic rays that might serve as an observable test of the proposed mechanism.
