JANUARY: The firmament in colour

The constellation of the Swan is a region of the sky tremendously rich in interstellar matter and nebulae. In this image, taken by the STC Astrograph from the Teide Observatory, in the narrow hydrogen, sulphur and oxygen filters, one can see from small and faint nebulae, such as sh2-115 in the centre of the image, to extensive regions beyond the limits of the image. The star Deneb (a Cygni), the brightest star in this constellation, stands out for its brightness.
