    The study, led by Paula Izquierdo, a doctoral student at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) and the University of La Laguna (ULL), has gone deeply into the analysis of this exceptional white dwarf, which shows periodic transits produced by fragments of a shredded planetesimal. The observations used for this research were obtained with the Gran Telescopio Canarias and with the Liverpool Telescope.

  • Poster of Hispanoamerican Festival of Authors in La Palma.
    The encounter, which will take place between September 18th and 22nd, in the municipality in La Palma of Los Llanos de Aridane, will bring together around forty literary figures writing in Spanish from both sides of the Atlantic. Among the planned acts the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) will participate in a panel discussion which will pay tribute to the memory of Stephen Hawking, and will organize a special visit for the guests to the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory.

    On the night of 12th to 13 of August, a moonless night, we will be able to see the maximum, of this meteor shower. The event will be broadcast live from the Teide Observatory (Izaña, Tenerife) and from El Anillo (Cáceres) via the sky-live.tv channel, on August 12th with the collaboration of the European project STARS4ALL and by “Extremadura Buenas Noches” an initiative of the Junta of Extremadura. In addition the citizen science project “Contadores de estrellas” (“Counters of Stars”) fimded by FECYT offers an observing proposal for the whole family.
