From its origins, the Instrumentation Division has participated in the construction of instrumentation to detect and analyze light in the visible range of the spectrum. Cameras, spectrographs, polarization analyzers, optical fibers fed systems, among others, have been designed, built, integrated and verified in our facilities.

PublicationHigh-resolution spectroscopy of Boyajian's star during optical dimming events
Boyajian's star is an apparently normal main-sequence F-type star with a very unusual light curve. The dipping activity of the star, discovered during the...

PublicationHints on the Gradual Resizing of the Torus in AGNs through Decomposition of Spitzer/IRS Spectra
Several authors have claimed that less luminous active galactic nuclei (AGNs) are not capable of sustaining a dusty torus structure. Thus, a gradual resizing of...

NewsIAC astronomers find a star in the Milky Way that shouldn’t really exist
Its very low content of metals, and specifically of carbon, put in question the current models of low mass star formation in the early universe.

PublicationInfrared polarimetry of Mrk 231: scattering off hot dust grains in the central core
We present high-angular (0.17$-$0.35 arcsec) resolution imaging polarimetric observations of Mrk 231 in the 3.1 $\mu$m filter using MMT-Pol on the 6.5-m MMT...
