Description
Color image of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) of the massive relic galaxy NGC1277. The image was constructed using filters F475W, F625W and F850LP that cover the visible range of radiation. The data was obtained with the HST program GO-14215 (whose principal investigator is Ignacio Trujillo). The field of vision shown corresponds to a physical scale of approximately 50000 x 35000 light years. The image has been scaled with a logarithmic intensity to facilitate seeing the different structures of the galaxy. The majority of the points observed in the image surrounding the galaxy are globular clusters. Credit: Michael Beasley and Ignacio Trujillo.
