On Friday and Saturday June 23rd and 24th it will be possible to visit the telescopes which are used for astronomical observations of the Tenerife sky. The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) is organizing (as it does every year) these Open Days at the Teide Observatory, among its outreach activities, to bring knowledge of astronomy to the general public and anyone who may be visiting the island on those days

From 10:00 to 15:00 there will be guided tours of the telescopes, the workshops, and also direct observations. There will be explanations about what is an astronomical observatory, and the importance of astronomy for humanity. The visitors will be able to visit the THEMIS solar telescope the IAC 80 telescope, the QUIJOTE Experiment, the Solar Laboratory, the Optical Ground Station (OGS) and the Vacuum Solar Tower (VTT).

Logistic information

Tickets will be issued in a rigorous “first come, first served” order. Vehicles must be parked in the carpark within the Observatory precinct.

As it is a mountain site, we recommend the use of comfortable shoes, solar protection, and a hat, as well as wearing a coat or jacket. Anyone suffering from heart or circulatory disease should be aware that the height (2,300 m above sea level) could cause health problems so we urge you, in that case, to consult a doctor prior to going up to the observatory.
