Description
The paper confirms the report of Kulkarni et al. (1979) who discovered IR bursts from the X-ray rapid burster, MXB1730-335. Two bursts at 2.2 microns, each of energy about 10 to the 31 J, and a new feature, several bright, brief flashes (delta t is less than 2s) superimposed on the burst continuum were observed. The brevity, luminosity and inferred brightness temperature of the flashes (T(B) about not less than 10 to the 10 K) imply a powerful, non-thermal emission mechanism. Simultaneous observations across the whole spectrum with high time resolution would be invaluable in understanding the emission.
