  • A mid-infrared study of H II regions in the Magellanic Clouds: N88 A and N160 A
Aims: To show the importance of high-spatial resolution observations of H II regions when compared with observations obtained with larger apertures such as ISO, we present mid-infrared spectra of two Magellanic Cloud H II regions, N88 A and N160 A. Methods: We obtained mid-infrared (8-13 μm), long-slit spectra with TIMMI2 on the ESO 3.6 m telescope

  • A modified χ2-test for cosmic microwave background analyses
We present a new general procedure for determining a given set of quantities. To this end, we define a certain statistic, which we call `modified χ2' (χ2M), because of its similarity to the standard χ2. The terms of this χ2M are made up of the fluctuations of an unbiased estimator of some statistical quantities and certain weights. Only the

  • A multiwavelength study of LS II+34 26: a hot post-AGB star in the process of becoming a planetary nebula.
We present the results from a multiwavelength analysis of LS II+34 26, recently identified as a low mass post-AGB star and not a massive population I B-type star, as previously thought. We confirm that the central star is a carbon-poor post-AGB star surrounded by a very low excitation and compact nebula. Spectroscopic monitoring carried out since

  • A MUSE map of the central Orion Nebula (M 42)
We present a new integral field spectroscopic dataset of the central part of the Orion Nebula (M 42), observed with the MUSE instrument at the ESO VLT. We reduced the data with the public MUSE pipeline. The output products are two FITS cubes with a spatial size of ~5.´9×4.´9 (corresponding to ~0.76 × 0.63 pc2) and a contiguous wavelength coverage

  • A new analysis of the 11-year period in OJ287 - Confirmation of its existence
We have compiled all the available optical B band data on OJ287, between 1890 and 1991. Using this data we have found a period of 11.6 +/- 0.5 yr for the outbursts in OJ 287. This value is in good agreement with the period of 11.65 yr between outbursts and 11.05 yr between minima found previously by Sillanpaa et al. (1988), using V-band data. Based
