  • The C+N+O abundances and the splitting of the subgiant branch in the globular cluster NGC 1851
Among the newly discovered features of multiple stellar populations in globular clusters (GCs), the cluster NGC 1851 harbours a double subgiant branch (SGB), that can be explained in terms of two stellar generations, only slightly differing in age, the younger one having an increased total C+N+O abundance. Thanks to this difference in the chemistry

  • The Carina Project. X. On the Kinematics of Old and Intermediate-age Stellar Populations1,2
We present new radial velocity (RV) measurements of old (horizontal branch) and intermediate-age (red clump) stellar tracers in the Carina dwarf spheroidal. They are based on more than 2200 low-resolution spectra collected with VIMOS at Very Large Telescope (VLT). The targets are faint (20 ≲ V ≲ 21.5 mag), but the accuracy at the faintest limit is

  • The Central Kiloparsec of Starbursts and AGN: The La Palma Connection
In May 2001 over 100 astronomers flew in from around the globe for an astronomical research conference on the central kiloparsec of starbursts and AGN, organised by the Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes, and in fact the first major scientific conference organised wholly on La Palma.

  • The central region of M83: massive star formation, kinematics, and the location and origin of the nucleus
We report new near-IR integral field spectroscopy of the central starburst region of the barred spiral galaxy M83 obtained with Cambridge Infra-Red Panoramic Survey Spectrograph (CIRPASS) on Gemini-South, which we analyse in conjunction with GHαFaS Fabry-Perot data, an Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT) IRIS2 Ks-band image, and near- and mid-IR

  • The ChaMP: Robust X-ray Source Detection Techniques and Preliminary Results
We present reliable, serendipitous x-ray detections found in three different deep ACIS imaging fields in two different energy bandpasses. We ran the Chandra X-ray Center's exttt{cell detect} source detection program on a ``soft band'' image (from 0.5 - 2.0 keV) and a ``hard band'' image (from 2.0 - 7.0 keV). The 3 high latitude fields investigated

  • The Chandra Multi-wavelength Project (ChaMP): X-ray Data Analysis
We present step-by-step X-ray data analysis procedures as part of the Chandra Multi-wavelength Project. They consist of additional data corrections and data screening post CXC Standard Data Processing Rev 1 and the determination of sources and their X-ray properties. Using 3 deep ACIS imaging fields (MS 1137.5+6625, CL0848.6+4453 and A0620-00) with
