  • The status of the QUIJOTE multi-frequency instrument
The QUIJOTE-CMB project has been described in previous publications. Here we present the current status of the QUIJOTE multi-frequency instrument (MFI) with five separate polarimeters (providing 5 independent sky pixels): two which operate at 10-14 GHz, two which operate at 16-20 GHz, and a central polarimeter at 30 GHz. The optical arrangement

  • The structure and kinematics of the unusual bipolar outflow NGC 7026.
High and low resolution spectroscopy, together with narrow and broad band imaging have been acquired for the unusual outflow source NGC 7026. We find evidence for appreciable changes in excitation, and a highly variable emission structure, consistent in part with observed variations in electron density. The mean electron density is found to be n_e_

  • The Surface Of Pluto-twin And Charon-like Objects
In this presentation we report visible and near infrared spectra covering the 0.35-2.5 μm range of two big TNOs recently discovered, 2005 FY9 and 2003 EL61, and visible spectrum of 2003UB313 obtained with the 4.2 m William Herschel Telescope and the 3.58 m Telescopio Nazionale Galileo sited at El Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory (La Palma, Spain)

  • The Swift Gamma-Ray Burst Mission
Swift is a first-of-its-kind multiwavelength transient observatory for GRB astronomy. It has the optimum capabilities for the next breakthroughs in determining the origin of GRBs and their afterglows, as well as using bursts to probe the early Universe. Swift will also perform the first sensitive hard X-ray survey of the sky. The mission is being

  • The system parameters of the polars MR SER and ST LMi
We obtain the NaI lambdalambda8183, 8195 absorption-line radial velocity curves for the polars ST LMi and MR Ser, from which we find the semi-amplitudes to be K_abs=329+/-6 and 289+/-9 km s^-1 respectively. We find that for both systems the effects on the NaI absorption lines due to X-rays heating the inner face of the secondary are negligible, and

  • The tip of the iceberg: the frequency content of the δ Sct star HD 50844 from CoRoT space photometry
It has been suggested that the detection of a wealth of very low amplitude modes in δ Sct stars was only a matter of signal-to-noise ratio. Access to this treasure, impossible from the ground, is one of the scientific aims of the space mission CoRoT, developed and operated by CNES. This work presents the results obtained on HD 50844: the 140,016
