  • New insights into the study of magnetic field in the clumpy torus of AGN using near-infrared polarimetry
We present J, H and Kn imaging polarimetry of IC5063. NIR polarimetry observations may advance our understanding of the mechanisms of polarisation and hence magnetic field strength in the torus of AGN. In these proceedings we summarize the polarisation results of the central 1.2'' aperture (˜263 pc) of IC5063. We present a simple polarising model

  • New neighbours. III. 21 new companions to nearby dwarfs, discovered with adaptive optics
We present some results of a CFHT adaptive optics search for companions to nearby dwarfs. We identify 21 new components in solar neighbourhood systems, of which 13 were found while surveying a volume-limited sample of M dwarfs within 12 pc. We are obtaining complete observations for this subsample, to derive unbiased multiplicity statistics for the

  • New neighbours. VI. Spectroscopy of DENIS nearby stars candidates
We present spectra of 36 nearby star candidates and 3 red giant candidates, identified in the DENIS database. 32 of the dwarf candidates are nearby red dwarfs, with spectral types from M 5.5 to M 8.5. Out of 11 targets with low proper motion (μ < 0.1 arcsec yr^-1) but a Reduced Proper Motion above an inclusive threshold, 9 are red dwarfs. The 4

  • New Teff and [Fe/H] spectroscopic calibration for FGK dwarfs and GK giants
Context. The ever-growing number of large spectroscopic survey programs has increased the importance of fast and reliable methods with which to determine precise stellar parameters. Some of these methods are highly dependent on correct spectroscopic calibrations. Aims: The goal of this work is to obtain a new spectroscopic calibration for a fast

  • NGC 5506: physics of the extended narrow line region.
NGC 5506 is a peculiar Seyfert (Sy) galaxy: it has a Sy2-like optical spectrum, but broad permitted infrared lines and a high X-ray luminosity as compared with Sy2's. By means of optical long slit spectroscopical observations, we obtained the velocity field, density and reddening of the narrow line region (NLR), as well as a detailed analysis of

  • Night-time image quality at Roque de LOS Muchachos Observatory
Nine months' seeing statistics at the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos (ORM) are presented. Measurements were taken with a differential image motion monitor on top of a 5-m high tower. From the whole campaign the mean seeing is 0.76", the median value is 0.64" and 7% of the time the seeing is better than 0.3". The best seeing measured is 0
