  • Unravelling the Role of the SW Sextantis Stars in the Evolution of Cataclysmic Variables
SW Sextantis stars are a relatively large group of cataclysmic variables whose properties contradict all predictions made by the current CV evolution theories. Very little is known about the properties of their accreting white dwarfs and their donor stars, as the stellar components are usually outshone by an extremely bright accretion flow

  • Unusual high-frequency oscillations in the Kepler δ Scuti star KIC 4840675
We show that the star KIC 4840675 observed by Kepler is composed of three stars with a rapidly rotating A-type star and two solar-type fainter companions. The A-type star is a δ Scuti variable with a dominant mode and many other modes of lower amplitude, including several low-frequency variations. The low-frequency variation with highest amplitude

  • Upholding the unified model for AGN: VLT/FORS2 spectropolarimetry of Seyfert 2 galaxies
The origin of the unification model for AGN was the detection of broad hydrogen recombination lines in the optical polarized spectrum of the Seyfert 2 galaxy (Sy2) NGC 1068. Since then, a search for the hidden broad-line region (HBLR) of nearby Sy2s started, but polarized broad lines have only been detected in ~30-40% of the nearby Sy2s observed to

  • Using a Mesoscale Meteorological Model to Reduce the Effect of Tropospheric Water Vapour from DInSAR Data: A Case Study for the Island of Tenerife, Canary Islands
Measurements of ground displacement through classical Differential Interferometric SAR (DInSAR) and advanced DInSAR techniques have been carried out over the entire actively volcanic island of Tenerife, Canary Islands. However, a detailed analysis of the effect of tropospheric water vapour on DInSAR at Tenerife should be carried out to evaluate its

  • Using binary statistics in Taurus-Auriga to distinguish between brown dwarf formation processes
Context. One of the key questions of the star formation problem is whether brown dwarfs (BDs) form in the manner of stars directly from the gravitational collapse of a molecular cloud core (star-like) or whether BDs and some very low-mass stars (VLMSs) constitute a separate population that forms alongside stars comparable to the population of
