  • Time-resolved UV spectroscopy of the accretion disk and wind in a super-Eddington black-hole X-ray transient
In October 2018, Swift announced the discovery of a new Galactic X-ray transient, Swift J1858. Just before Sun-angle constraints rendered the system unobservable, follow-up observations revealed extreme flaring activity, of a kind that has so far only been seen in the famous black hole X-ray binary (BHXRB) V404 Cyg during its 2015 eruption and in

  • The TRGB Distance to the Second Galaxy “Missing Dark Matter”: Evidence for Two Groups of Galaxies at 13.5 and 19 Mpc in the Line of Sight of NGC 1052
A second galaxy “missing dark matter” (NGC 1052-DF4) has been reported recently. Here we show, using the location of the tip of the red giant branch (TRGB), that the distance to this galaxy is 14.2 ± 0.7 Mpc. This locates the galaxy 6 Mpc closer than previously determined. We also analyze the distances to the brightest galaxies in the field of view

  • The Penas Pasera tumulus field of the Celtiberian city of Aratis (Aranda del Moncayo, Zaragoza, Spain) and the Celtic calendar
Within the actions carried out by the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage of the Government of Aragon in relation to the judicial procedure on the pillage of the Celtiberian city of Aratis (Aranda de Moncayo, Zaragoza), a large area was located with several concentrations of tumular structures in the area of Penas Pasera, previously

  • The metal-rich halo tail extended in |z|: a characterization with Gaia DR2 and APOGEE
We report an analysis of the metal-rich tail ([Fe/H] > -0.75) of stars located at distances from the Galactic plane up to |z| ˜ 10 kpc, observed by the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE). We examine the chemistry, kinematics, and dynamics of this metal-rich sample using chemical abundances and radial velocities provided

  • The L 98-59 System: Three Transiting, Terrestrial-size Planets Orbiting a Nearby M Dwarf
We report the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) discovery of three terrestrial-size planets transiting L 98-59 (TOI-175, TIC 307210830)—a bright M dwarf at a distance of 10.6 pc. Using the Gaia-measured distance and broadband photometry, we find that the host star is an M3 dwarf. Combined with the TESS transits from three sectors, the

  • The Fornax3D project: Tracing the assembly history of the cluster from the kinematic and line-strength maps
The 31 brightest galaxies (mB ≤ 15 mag) inside the virial radius of the Fornax cluster were observed from the centres to the outskirts with the Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer on the Very Large Telescope. These observations provide detailed high-resolution maps of the line-of-sight kinematics, line strengths of the stars, ionised gas reaching 2-3
