  • Legacy Extragalactic UV Survey (LEGUS) With the Hubble Space Telescope. I. Survey Description
The Legacy ExtraGalactic UV Survey (LEGUS) is a Cycle 21 Treasury program on the Hubble Space Telescope aimed at the investigation of star formation and its relation with galactic environment in nearby galaxies, from the scales of individual stars to those of ˜kiloparsec-size clustered structures. Five-band imaging from the near-ultraviolet to the

  • Large SDSS Quasar Groups and their Statistical Significance
We use a volume-limited sample of quasars in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) DR7 quasar catalog to identify quasar groups and address their statistical significance. This quasar sample has a uniform selection function on the sky and nearly a maximum possible contiguous volume that can be drawn from the DR7 catalog. Quasar groups are identified

  • Kinematic properties of superbubbles in the Antennae, M83 and Arp 270
Superbubbles and large scale expansion in galaxies are important indicators of activity in galaxies: they are formed in starbursts and around active nuclei. Superbubbles can be used to give information about the star-forming region which produced them. We present in-depth results of our study of kinematically detected superbubbles using a method

  • Ionized and neutral gas in the XUV discs of nearby spiral galaxies
We are conducting a multiwavelength study of XUV discs in nearby, gas-rich spiral galaxies combining the available UV (GALEX) observations with H i data obtained at the ATCA as part of the Local Volume HI Survey (LVHIS) project and multi-object fibre spectroscopy obtained using the 2dF/AAOmega instrument at the 3.9m AAT. Here we present the results

  • H II Regions Within a Compact High Velocity Cloud. A Nearly Starless Dwarf Galaxy?
Within the SECCO survey we identified a candidate stellar counterpart to the Ultra Compact High Velocity Cloud (UCHVC) HVC274.68+74.70-123 that was suggested by Adams et al. to be a possible mini halo within the Local Group of galaxies. The spectroscopic follow-up of the brightest sources within the candidate reveals the presence of two H ii

  • Globular Cluster Populations: First Results from S4G Early-type Galaxies
Using 3.6 μm images of 97 early-type galaxies, we develop and verify methodology to measure globular cluster populations from the S4G survey images. We find that (1) the ratio, T N, of the number of clusters, N CL, to parent galaxy stellar mass, M *, rises weakly with M * for early-type galaxies with M * > 1010 M ☉ when we calculate galaxy masses
