  • PMAS optical integral field spectroscopy of luminous infrared galaxies. II. Spatially resolved stellar populations and excitation conditions
Context. The general properties (e.g., activity class, star formation rates, metallicities, extinctions, average ages, etc.) of luminous (LIRGs) and ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs) in the local universe are well known because large samples of these objects have been the subject of numerous spectroscopic works over the past three decades

  • Physical Properties of Binary Brown Dwarfs
Astrometric observations of binary brown dwarfs yield dynamical masses of the components independently of theoretical models. We give an update on our long-term high-resolution spectroscopic and photometric monitoring programme of spatially resolved binary brown dwarfs using ground-based adaptive optics and the Hubble Space Telescope. We present

  • Photometric scaling for L/S0 galaxies (Laurikainen+ 2010)
Photometric scaling relations are studied for S0 galaxies and compared with those obtained for spirals. New two-dimensional multi-component decompositions are presented for 122 early-type disc galaxies, using deep Ks-band images. Combining them with our previous decompositions, the final sample consists of 175 galaxies (Near-Infrared Survey of S0s

  • On the origin of M81 group extended dust emission
Galactic cirrus emission at far-infrared wavelengths affects many extragalactic observations. Separating this emission from that associated with extragalactic objects is both important and difficult. In this paper we discuss a particular case, the M81 group, and the identification of diffuse structures prominent in the infrared, but also detected

  • Numerical simulation of propagation of the MHD waves in sunspots
We present results of numerical 3D simulation of propagation of MHD waves in sunspots. We used two self consistent magnetohydrostatic background models of sunspots. There are two main differences between these models: (i) the topology of the magnetic field and (ii) dependence of the horizontal profile of the sound speed on depth. The model with
