  • The Ultraviolet Filter Imager (SuFI) onboard the Sunrise balloon-borne solar observatory: Instrument description and first results
We describe the design of the near UV filter imager SuFi onboard Sunrise, which was successfully flown in the stratosphere in June 2009. During its five days flight SuFI captured the highest contrast images of solar granulation ever. SuFI is a diffraction limited filter imager with an effective focal length of 121m, working in 5 distinct wavelength

  • The QUIJOTE CMB Experiment
We present the current status of the QUIJOTE (Q-U-I JOint TEnerife) CMB Experiment, a new instrument which will start operations early in 2009 at Teide Observatory with the aim of characterizing the polarization of the CMB and other processes of galactic and extragalactic emission in the frequency range 10-30GHz and at large angular scales. • The Merger Fraction Evolution up to z ~ 1
We present results on the disk-disk major merger fraction evolution up to z˜1 in SPITZER/IRAC selected samples in the GOODS-S field. We pick as merger remnants sources with high asymmetry (A). We take into account the experimental errors in photometric redshift and index A, that tend to overestimate the merger fraction, by maximum likelihood

  • The Magnetic Field of Solar Spicules
Determining the magnetic field of solar spicules is vital for developing adequate models of these plasma jets, which are thought to play a key role in the thermal, dynamic, and magnetic structure of the chromosphere. Here we report on magnetic spicule properties in a very quiet region of the off-limb solar atmosphere, as inferred from new
