  • Dust in R Coronae Borealis stars
R Coronae Borealis stars (RCBs) provide an unique circumstellar environment that is hydrogen-deficient, helium-rich and carbon-rich in which dust condensation occurs. Litle is known about how and where the dust condensation process, compositions of the dust, and the trigger for dust formation. The hydrogen-poor carbon-rich and metal-poor (in some

  • Dust Evolution in Low-Metallicity Environments: Bridging the Gap Between Local Universe and Primordial Galaxies
The local galaxy Science Advisory Group (SAG 2) in the Herschel/SPIRE consortium, has constructed a Guaranteed Time Key Program using the PACS and SPIRE insruments to obtain 60 to 550 micron photometry of a statistically significant sample of 51 dwarf galaxies in our local universe chosen to cover an impressivly broad range of physical conditions

  • Diverse young stellar populations in the intermediate-redshift radio galaxies 3C 213.1 and 3C 459: implications for the evolution of the host galaxies
We present European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope (ESO VLT) and William Herschel Telescope (WHT) spectroscopic observations of two powerful radio galaxies at intermediate redshifts (3C 213.1 and 3C 459), obtained with the aim of establishing the nature and evolutionary status of the host galaxies. Spectral synthesis modelling has been

  • CT1 photometry of 5 SMC star clusters (Piatti+, 2007)
The CCD images were obtained using the 1.54-m Danish telescope at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) on La Silla, equipped with the Danish Faint Object Spectrograph and Camera (DFOSC) on 4-5 Nov and 29 Dec 1999. Observations were secured in the Washington C and Kron-Cousins R filters. (5 data files).

  • Channeling 5 Minute Photospheric Oscillations into the Solar Outer Atmosphere through Small-Scale Vertical Magnetic Flux Tubes
We report two-dimensional MHD simulations which demonstrate that photospheric 5 minute oscillations can leak into the chromosphere inside small-scale vertical magnetic flux tubes. The results of our numerical experiments are compatible with those inferred from simultaneous spectropolarimetric observations of the photosphere and chromosphere
