  • 3D Spectroscopy of Low-z (Ultra)Luminous Infrared Galaxies
We are using integral field spectroscopy (IFS) data together with archival Hubble Space Telescope (HST) images, for carrying out a program aimed at studying a representative sample of local luminous and ultraluminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs and ULIRGs; 11 ≤ log(LIR/L&sun;)≤13). Our goals are to characterize the stellar and ionized gas structure

  • The Herschel SPIRE instrument and its capabilities for extragalactic astronomy
SPIRE, the Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver, is one of three instruments to fly on the European Space Agency’s Herschel Space Observatory. It contains a three-band imaging photometer operating at 250, 350 and 500 μm, and an imaging Fourier transform spectrometer covering 194 672 μm. The SPIRE detectors are arrays of feedhorn-coupled

  • Single and Binary Massive Stars Close to the Zero Age Main Sequence
We present data for single and binary massive stars, both from new analyses (Trapezium stars, O stars in NGC 6611, and the massive binary system V478 Cyg) and collected from the literature. We show that data for single stars depart from the theoretical ZAMS, while those for binary systems are consistent with a ZAMS formed through a linearly mass

  • On the Origin of the HII Regions Associated with Massive and Compact Superstar Clusters
This contribution to the IV Korea-Mexico meeting deals with the hydrodynamics of the matter reinserted within super star clusters (SSCs) by both stellar winds and supernova explosions, results recently printed in The Astrophysical Journal (Silich et al. 2007). The motivation of such a project arose from the persistent presence of the small mass and
