  • Tendency towards maximum complexity in a nonequilibrium isolated system
The time evolution equations of a simplified isolated ideal gas, the ``tetrahedral'' gas, are derived. The dynamical behavior of the López-Ruiz-Mancini-Calbet complexity [R. López-Ruiz, H. L. Mancini, and X. Calbet, Phys. Lett. A 209, 321 (1995)] is studied in this system. In general, it is shown that the complexity remains within the bounds of

  • Optical studies of the X-ray transient XTE J2123-058 - II. Phase-resolved spectroscopy
We present time-resolved spectroscopy of the soft X-ray transient XTEJ2123-058 in outburst. A useful spectral coverage of 3700-6700Å was achieved spanning two orbits of the binary, with single-epoch coverage extending to ~9000Å. The optical spectrum approximates a steep blue power law, consistent with emission on the Rayleigh-Jeans tail of a hot

  • On faint companions in the close environment of star-forming dwarf galaxies. Possible external star formation triggers?
We have searched for companion galaxies in the close environment of 98 star-forming dwarf galaxies (SFDGs) from field and low density environments, using the NASA Extragalactic Database. Most of the companions are dwarf galaxies which due to observational selection effects were previously disregarded in environmental studies of SFDGs. A subsample

  • Multiepoch Multiwavelength Spectra and Models for Blazar 3C 279
Of the blazars detected by EGRET in GeV γ-rays, 3C 279 is not only the best observed by EGRET but also one of the best monitored at lower frequencies. We have assembled 11 spectra, from GHz radio through GeV γ-rays, from the time intervals of EGRET observations. Although some of the data have appeared in previous publications, most are new
