  • H2 and Brγ Narrowband Imaging of Bipolar Planetary Nebulae
We present near-IR narrowband continuum-subtracted images in the H2 2.122 μm, and Brγ 2.166 μm emission lines for a sample of 15 bipolar planetary nebulae (PNe). H2 emission was definitely detected for most of the objects in this sample (13 of 15). The very high H2 detection rate supports the idea that bipolar PNe have important reservoirs of

  • Analysis of asymmetric p-mode profiles in GOLF data
We show here evidence for the necessity of an asymmetric form in modelling the profile of an acoustic mode in the power spectral density. The analysis was performed on a 805-day series of GOLF data (l=0 to 3). The assumptions used for the fits are discussed and their consequences quantified, in particular for the optimum choice of the fitting

  • A Survey of the Interstellar Medium in Early-Type Galaxies. III. Stellar and Gas Kinematics
We present gaseous and stellar kinematics for 14 gas-rich early-type galaxies. Half of the sample exhibit irregular gaseous velocity profiles; gas/star counter-rotation is visible in five galaxies. We also find five counter-rotating stellar cores, while five more galaxies display inner components kinematically decoupled from the main stellar body

  • A search for planetary nebulae in M33
We searched for planetary nebulae (PNe) in the nearby spiral galaxy M33 using the Wide Field Camera at the 2.54 m Isaac Newton Telescope of La Palma (Spain). Images in the [O iii] nebular line at lambda 5007Ä, in the Hα +[N ii] lines around 6560 Ä, and in the continuum around 5550Ä allowed us to detect a large number of emission line objects. Among

  • The ionized gas in the spiral galaxy NGC 3359. I. Photometry
We combine Hα imaging and broad-band optical and NIR imaging over the face of the barred galaxy NGC 3359, obtained within the BARS program on the Canary Island telescopes. From the Hα image we have determined the positions, fluxes, and diameters of a total of 547 Hii regions, and computed their luminosity function, whose slope is within the range

  • The cosmic evolution of Starburst galaxies and AGN from the largest ISO survey
The huge improvement in sensitivity provided by the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) offered the opportunity to probe the galaxy population to higher redshift than the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) and to make progress in understanding the obscured star-formation history (SFH) of the Universe. The ``European Large Area ISO Survey'' (ELAIS)
