  • The integrated magnetic field of the sun seen by the GOLF experiment
The secondary objective of the GOLF Experiment on-board the SOHO space mission is to measure the line-of-sight component of the disk averaged magnetic field of the Sun. GOLF is an improved disk-integrated sunlight resonant scattering spectrophotome ter. Using an extra fixed quarter wave plate placed at the entrance of the instrument, enables a

  • The First Line Profiles from Cool Field Brown Dwarfs
The empirical study of confirmed brown dwarfs began in 1995. Until this year, however, no ironclad examples of free-floating field brown dwarfs have been confirmed. Recently three excellent candidates have been discovered --- bright enough to obtain high resolution spectra with the Keck 10-m telescope. Two of our targets clearly show the lithium

  • The Exact Fractions Technique Applied to the Search of Solar Gravity Modes
Amongst the different techniques applied up to now to the search for solar g--modes (peaks identification, study of the phase/power coherence, the P0 - nur diagrams, etc ldots), some ones are primarily based on the use of their asymptotic behaviour: the constant separation in period between consecutive modes of the same degree ell. The exact

  • The Chemical Abundances of I ZW 18 from Bidimensional Spectroscopy
Preliminary results from bidimensional long-slit spectroscopic observations of the prototypical low-metallicity dwarf galaxy I Zw 18 are presented. Eight evenly spaced slit positions were observed in order to cover the body of the galaxy and part of the ionized halo seen in deep H alpha images. The study of the ionization structure and the

  • The bipolar outflow from the M-giant star HR 3126
HR 3126 is an M2 II giant surrounded by the bipolar reflection nebula IC2220. A sensitive R-band image obtained with the ESO 3.6 m telescope shows that the nebula has a size of at least 10', corresponding to a linear size of about 1 pc, and is extended in the east-west direction. CO(1-0), CO(2-1), and 13CO(1-0) maps obtained with the Swedish-ESO
