  • Global photometric properties of (162173) Ryugu
Context. The Hayabusa2 spacecraft launched by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency has been conducting observations of the asteroid (162173) Ryugu since June 2018. The Telescopic Optical Navigation Camera (ONC-T) onboard Hayabusa2 has obtained thousands of images under a variety of illumination and viewing conditions. Aims: Our objective is to

  • Gas and dust cooling along the major axis of M 33 (HerM33es). Herschel/PACS [C II] and [O I] observations
Context. M 33 is a gas rich spiral galaxy of the Local Group. Its vicinity allows us to study its interstellar medium (ISM) on linear scales corresponding to the sizes of individual giant molecular clouds. Aims: We investigate the relationship between the two major gas cooling lines and the total infrared (TIR) dust continuum. Methods: We mapped

  • Galaxy morphology classification using unsupervised machine learning techniques
Upcoming deep surveys (e.g. LSST, JWST, EUCLID) will provide high quality imaging at unprecedentedly high red shifts, allowing the study of galaxy morphology at different cosmic times. The processing of such data will be necessarily automatized due to its enormous volume. Deep Learning has proven to be a powerful tool in these situations. Previous

  • Gaia white dwarfs within 40 pc II: the volume-limited Northern hemisphere sample
We present an overview of the sample of Northern hemisphere white dwarfs within 40 pc of the Sun detected from Gaia Data Release 2 (DR2). We find that 521 sources are spectroscopically confirmed degenerate stars, 111 of which were first identified as white dwarf candidates from Gaia DR2 and followed up recently with the William Herschel Telescope

  • Gaia white dwarfs within 40 pc - I. Spectroscopic observations of new candidates
We present a spectroscopic survey of 230 white dwarf candidates within 40 pc of the Sun from the William Herschel Telescope and Gran Telescopio Canarias. All candidates were selected from Gaia Data Release 2 (DR2) and in almost all cases, had no prior spectroscopic classifications. We find a total of 191 confirmed white dwarfs and 39 main-sequence
