  • Tri-Phonic Helioseismology: Comparison of Solar P Modes Observed by the Helioseismology Instruments Aboard SOHO

The three helioseismology instruments aboard SOHO observe solar p modes in velocity (GOLF and MDI) and in intensity (VIRGO and MDI). Time series of two months duration are compared and confirm that the instruments indeed observe the same Sun to a high degree of precision. Power spectra of 108 days are compared showing systematic differences between

  • Two New X-Ray Sources in M31 and M31GC J004234+405709 Observed by Chandra

We report the discovery of two previously unseen X-ray sources detected in a 5ks Chandra/ACIS observation starting on 2008-10-13.15 UT as part of our ongoing Chandra/HST M31 transient program. Due to the low number of counts, no detailed spectral analysis was possible. The spectra were modelled with an absorbed power law of nH = 6.67e20 atoms/ cm2

  • Two newly identified, relatively old star clusters in the Small Magellanic Cloud

We present the results on the age and metallicity estimates of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) clusters L110, L112 and L113 obtained from CCD Washington CT1 photometry. We confirm L113 as a relatively old and metal-poor cluster, and report for the first time that L110 and 112 are also relatively old clusters (t ~ 6.5 Gyr). Their derived ages and

  • Two planetary systems with transiting Earth-sized and super-Earth planets orbiting late-type dwarf stars

We present two new planetary systems found around cool dwarf stars with data from the K2 mission. The first system was found in K2-239 (EPIC 248545986), characterized in this work as M3.0V and observed in the 14th campaign of K2. It consists of three Earth-sized transiting planets with radii of 1.1, 1.0, and 1.1 R⊕, showing a compact configuration

  • Two white dwarfs in ultrashort binaries with detached, eclipsing, likely sub-stellar companions detected by K2

Using data from the extended Kepler mission in K2 Campaign 10, we identify two eclipsing binaries containing white dwarfs with cool companions that have extremely short orbital periods of only 71.2 min (SDSS J1205-0242, a.k.a. EPIC 201283111) and 72.5 min (SDSS J1231+0041, a.k.a. EPIC 248368963). Despite their short periods, both systems are

  • Two-component model for III Zw 2 broad line region

We have modelled the central emitting broad line region (BLR) of the III Zw 2 using the Hα, Hβ, Lyα and Mg II (2798) broad lines. We proposed that two-component model, consisting of inner Keplerian relativistic disk and an outer emitting structure that surrounds the disk, can explain the shape of III Zw 2 broad lines.
