Description

Five are the main objectives of this coordinated project, which are nevertheless synergistically related to one another. First, we must contribute to the operations of the SO/PHI instrument. (We are co-PI of its development.) Second, we aim at participating in the data reduction of the third flight of Sunrise and in the preparation of the database to be released to the science community at large. (We have led the TuMag and co-led the SCIP developments for this mission.) Third, we plan to participate in the late phase B and phase C in the development of the Photospheric Magnetic field Imager (PMI) instrument for the upcoming ESA mission Lagrange, the first of the new European effort to provide own technical tools for space weather forecasting. (We have already contributed to phases A and B1 of its development.) Fourth, we want to carry out basic research in the various technology disciplines involved in our five coordinated groups. And fifth, we want to do the necessary basic research to foster our knowledge of the Sun by 1) exploiting data from the three flights of Sunrise; 2) exploiting data from SO/PHI; 3) analyzing data from other space-borne and ground-based instruments; and 4) carrying out theoretical investigations of the Suns magnetic field.
