  • Bayesclumpy: Bayesian Inference with Clumpy Dusty Torus Models
Our aim is to present a fast and general Bayesian inference framework based on the synergy between machine learning techniques and standard sampling methods and apply it to infer the physical properties of clumpy dusty torus using infrared photometric high spatial resolution observations of active galactic nuclei. We make use of the Metropolis

  • Baryonic Matter at Supercluster Scales: The case of Corona Borealis II
In a recent survey at 33 GHz for baryonic matter at large scales in the Corona Borealis Supercluster (CrB-SC) of galaxies (z = 0.07) using the Very Small Array interferometer (VSA), covering 24^2, two strongs decrements in temperature (CrB-B and CrB-H) near the centre of the supercluster were detected. The amplitudes are -157+/-27 and -230+/-23μK

  • Ages and chemical properties of stellar populations from integrated spectra and spectral indexes
The various methods for studying in detail relevant stellar population parameters throught the integrated light are reviewed. The emphasis is given to the analysis based on absorption line-strength indices. The state-of-the-art of the stellar population synthesis models and methodologies is summarized. Finally some of the various uncertainties and

  • A Unique Star in the Outer Halo of the Milky Way
As part of a program to measure abundance ratios in stars beyond 15 kpc from the Galactic center, we have discovered a metal-poor star in the outer halo with a unique chemical signature. We originally identified it in the Sloan Extension for Galactic Understanding and Exploration survey as a distant metal-poor star. We obtained a follow-up spectrum

  • A pile of new Planetary Nebulae in the Galactic Plane
The INT photometric H-alpha Survey (IPHAS; http://www.iphas.org) is now near completion. A band of 10 degrees along the Northern Galactic Plane is being imaged in Hα, r' and i' filters with typically 1 arcsec resolution and a completeness limit better than r'=20 mag. IPHAS is filling in the currently existing gap in the Planetary Nebulae (PNe)
