  • Computing Solar Absolute Fluxes
Computed color indices and spectral shapes for individual stars are routinely compared with observations for essentially all spectral types, but absolute fluxes are rarely tested. We can confront observed irradiances with the predictions from model atmospheres for a few stars with accurate angular diameter measurements, notably the Sun. Previous

  • Chandra Detection of a New Transient X-Ray Source in M31: CXOM31 J004251.5+411701
We report the discovery of a previously unseen X-ray source detected in a 5ks Chandra/ACIS observation starting on 2009-03-11.59 UT as part of our ongoing Chandra/HST M31 transient program. Its coordinates (subject to the standard boresight correction) are R.A.(J2000) 00:42:51.59, Dec(J2000) +41:17:01.45, with centroiding errors of 0.12" and 0.09"

  • Cepheid Variable Stars in the Pegasus Dwarf Irregular Galaxy: Constraints on the Star Formation History
Observations of the resolved stars obtained over a period of 11 years in the Local Group dwarf irregular galaxy Pegasus have been used to search for Cepheid variable stars. Images were obtained in 55 epochs in the V band and in 24 epochs in the I band. We have identified 26 Cepheids and have obtained their light curves and periods. On the basis of

  • Broad Relativistic Iron Emission Line Observed in SAX J1808.4-3658
During the 2008 September-October outburst of the accreting millisecond pulsar SAX J1808.4-3658, the source was observed by both Suzaku and XMM-Newton approximately 1 day apart. Spectral analysis reveals a broad relativistic Fe Kα emission line which is present in both data sets, as has recently been reported for other neutron star low-mass X-ray
