  • November 2007 Chandra Observations of X-Ray Transients in M31
As part of our ongoing Chandra/HST M31 transient program we report on two active sources recently detected in two Chandra ACIS observations. Source 1 We present two 5ks ACIS-I observations of the ongoing outburst of the M31 transient source CXOM31 J004217.0+411508 (r3-46). Using an absorbed powerlaw model with photon index = 1.7 and nH = 6.6e20

  • News from z ˜ 6--10 Galaxy Candidates Found Behind Gravitational Lensing Clusters
We summarise the current status of our project to identify and study z ˜ 6-10 galaxies thanks to strong gravitational lensing. Building on the detailed work from tet{sch:richard06}, we present results from new follow-up observations (imaging) undertaken with ACS/HST and the Spitzer Space Telescope and compare our results with findings from the

  • New Roads for Understanding the Stellar Populations in Early-Type Galaxies
We present new tools for improving our abilities for disentangling relevant stellar population parameters in early-type galaxies. To develop these tools we use stellar population synthesis models predicting spectra for old and intermediate-aged stellar populations at moderately high resolution. We propose new indices to lift the age/metallicity

  • New Global Mass Functions and Structural Parameters for Galactic Globular Clusters
The HST/ACS Survey of Galactic Globular Clusters includes F606W and F814W observations of 66 clusters (Sarajedini et al. 2007). We present new global mass functions (MFs) for a significant sub-sample of clusters in the survey. We also present updated core radii, tidal radii, and concentrations for many of these clusters. This new information allows

  • Multiplicity among Young Brown Dwarfs and Very Low Mass Stars
We report on a near-infrared adaptive optics imaging survey of 31 young brown dwarfs and very low mass (VLM) stars, 28 of which are in the Chamaeleon I star-forming region, using the ESO Very Large Telescope. We resolve the suspected 0.16'' (~26 AU) binary Cha Hα 2 and present two new binaries, Hn 13 and CHXR 15, with separations of 0.13'' (~20 AU)

  • Modelling the Galactic Magnetic Field using WMAP data at 22 GHz
SPACE (SPectroscopic All-sky Cosmic Explorer) is a class-M mission proposed to ESA for the Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 call and recently promoted to the next assessment study phase. SPACE will produce the first all-sky spectroscopic survey of the Universe, taking spectra of more than 500 million galaxies over a wide range of redshifts. SPACE will
