  • IGR J17303-0601 is a new intermediate polar
We have identified IGR J17303-0601 (1RXS J173021.5-055933) as an intermediate polar (IP). The optical counterpart is USNOA2.0 0825_10606993 (RA=17h30m21.9s Dec=-05d59m31s). Using optical photometry obtained in 2003 at the JKT and at the OGS we determine the white dwarf spin period to be 120s, which is the second-shortest spin period discovered so

  • First detections of the cataclysmic variable AE Aquarii in the near to far infrared with ISO and IRAS: Investigating the various possible thermal and non-thermal contributions
We have used ISO to observe the Magnetic Cataclysmic Variable AE Aquarii in the previously unexplored range from 4.8 μm up to 170 μm in the framework of a coordinated multi-wavelength campaign from the radio to optical wavelengths. We have obtained for the first time a spectrum between 4.8 and 7.3 μm with ISOCAM and ISOPHOT-P: the major

  • Final analysis of ELAIS 15-μm observations: method, reduction and catalogue
We present the final analysis of the European Large Area Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) Survey (ELAIS) 15-μm observations, carried out with the ISO Camera (ISOCAM) instrument on board the ISO. The data-reduction method, known as the Lari Method, is based on a mathematical model of the behaviour of the detector and was specifically designed for

  • Far IR Properties of AGNs. The AGN-Starburst Connection
With the main goal of investigating the AGN and/or Starburst nature of LINERs, we have studied their FIR properties. Based on the classical indicators of Star Formation activity S25/S100 and the S60/S100 ratios, we have confirmed their heterogeous nature and they can be separated in three groups: normal spiral galaxies with low level nuclear star

  • Evolutionary history of the elliptical galaxy NGC 1052
We have obtained Keck spectra for 16 globular clusters (GCs) associated with the merger remnant elliptical NGC 1052, as well as a long-slit spectrum of the galaxy. We derive ages, metallicities and abundance ratios from simple stellar population models using the recently published methods of Proctor & Sansom, applied to extragalactic GCs for the

  • Disk-integrated Intensity Pseudomodes Measured by SOHO/VIRGO
The high-frequency spectrum above the acoustic cutoff frequency (νac) of the solar atmosphere has been observed in velocity measurements at low and high angular degrees and reveals significant evidence for the presence of pseudomodes characterized by their equally spaced signal. In this paper we study this region of the spectra using for the first
