  • A new pipeline for Space Surveillance and Tracking activities at the IAC80 telescope
In this work we present a real-time pipeline for space debris studies in the IAC80 telescope. CCD images are reduced, satellite or space debris trails are detected and characterized, astrometric reduction is performed and a quality control is applied in order to reject outliers from the solutions. As a final product we obtain the equatorial

  • A New Class of Roche Lobe-filling Hot Subdwarf Binaries
We present the discovery of the second binary with a Roche lobe-filling hot subdwarf transferring mass to a white dwarf (WD) companion. This 56 minute binary was discovered using data from the Zwicky Transient Facility. Spectroscopic observations reveal an He-sdOB star with an effective temperature of T eff = 33,700 ± 1000 K and a surface gravity

  • A MUSE view of high-ADF planetary nebulae
We present results from deep MUSE data in extended mode obtained for three planetary nebulae (PNe) with previously reported high abundance discrepancy factors (ADF). The spatially resolved emission maps of recombination lines (ORLs) and collisionally excited lines (CELs) of oxygen ions point to two different plasma components: one hot component

  • 2D simulations of the Biermann battery mechanism in partially ionized plasmas
In the absence of an initial seed, the Biermann battery term of a non-ideal induction equation acts a source that generates weak magnetic fields. Here, we study this mechanism in the context of partially ionized plasmas, using a model in which the charged and neutral components of the plasma are treated as two different fluids that interact by

  • "New Space" for Astronomy and Astrophysics
The development of space instrumentation under the CubeSat standard has launched a "New Space" era in which missions develop much faster and at considerably lower cost than traditional space exploration. Vastly used for communications and EO science, CubeSats also have incoming possibilities for Astrophysics research, with the potential to be a

  • MODELING OF NON-IDEAL MAGNETOHYDRODYNAMIC EFFECTS IN THE SOLAR ATMOSPHERE
Understanding the connection between solar atmospheric layers through the magnetic field is a challenging task in solar physics. These regions are form by plasma weakly ionized and in some places the ionization fraction can be as low as 10^-4 meaning that the presence of neutrals could be important. The interaction of weakly ionized plasma with
