We shall start the presentation by introducing our motivation to develop adaptive imaging systems by using liquid crystals. Then we shall describe the fundamentals of liquid crystals and basic concepts of electrically tunable lenses and their implementations. Finally, we shall  present various applications of this technology ranging from biology and microscopy to mobile imaging, autonomous driving and robotic vision.
