We present near IR photometry and spectrophotometry of two unusual novae observed in 1991: Nova Herculis and Nova Scuti. Both are seen to have unusual spectral and light curve characteristics, the former due to the very formation of a dust cloud surrounding the nova and the second because of what is interpreted to be high interstellar reddening. Both novae present strong and well defined Brackett gamma lines, although in the former this line disappeared rapidly due to blanketing from the circumstellar dust cloud. Considerable differences are seen between the visible and IR light curves of both objects. Nova Herculis is found to be the fastest nova ever observed in the visible with a time to decay 3 mag from maximum (t 3) of 2.8 d.
